FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FreeSign, answered straight
Everything people ask before sending their first document for signature. Still curious? Contact us and we will help.
Is FreeSign really free?
Yes. FreeSign is a genuinely free e-signature service, not a free trial. You can send and sign unlimited documents with no credit card, no per-seat fees, and no watermarks on your signed documents.
Are FreeSign e-signatures legally binding?
Yes. Electronic signatures made with FreeSign are compliant with the US ESIGN Act and UETA, as well as the EU eIDAS regulation, so a document signed through FreeSign is legally binding in the US and EU.
How does signing a document work?
It is three steps: upload a PDF or document, add your signers and email them a secure signing link, and everyone signs online from any device. Once complete, each party gets a sealed, legally binding copy. There is no software to install.
Do signers need to create an account?
No. The person you send a document to signs through a secure link sent to their email. The link itself is the credential, so your signers do not need to register or log in to sign.
How do I create an account to send documents?
FreeSign uses Google sign-in. Click "Sign up free" or "Log in" and sign in with your Google account. Signing up and logging in are the same one-click action, so there is no separate password to remember.
Is there a limit on how many documents I can send?
No. There are no monthly caps and no per-document fees. You can send and sign as many documents as you need, always free.
How are my documents kept secure?
Every signing session runs over SSL encryption in transit, and each completed document carries a tamper-evident audit trail so you can prove who signed what, and when.
What file types can I upload?
FreeSign is built around PDF documents. Upload the PDF you need signed, place the signature and other fields where they belong, and send it out for signature.
Is there an API for developers?
Yes. FreeSign offers a REST API for sending and managing documents programmatically. See the developer docs and get an API key at developers.freesign.us.
